World’s Tallest and Asia’s Longest Aqueduct Built in Tumakuru’s Chelur

Contractors and engineers to be honored at Vidhana Soudha, says Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar

Tumakuru: In a major engineering milestone, Karnataka has completed the construction of the world’s tallest (40 meters) and Asia’s longest (10.47 kilometers) aqueduct under the ambitious Yettinahole Drinking Water Project. The record-breaking structure has been built near Chelur in Gubbi Taluk, Tumakuru district, by the Visvesvaraya Jala Nigam.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar shared the achievement on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the structure as a historic feat and a proud moment for the state.

The aqueduct is designed to carry drinking water to several districts under the Yettinahole project—one of Karnataka’s key initiatives to address water scarcity.

“The engineers, officers, and contractors who have built this engineering marvel deserve national recognition. We will honor them appropriately at Vidhana Soudha,” said D.K. Shivakumar.

He added that the project would serve as a model for other states, showcasing Karnataka's capabilities in infrastructure and water management.
