Alarming Rise in Heart Attack Deaths in Hassan: Health Department Forms Expert Committee

Over 20 people many of them young have died due to heart attacks in just one month. A high-level committee has now been formed to investigate the crisis.

InsightRush: The Karnataka Health Department has initiated urgent action following a disturbing surge in heart attack-related deaths in Hassan district. Reports indicate that more than 20 people have died in the past month alone with a notable number of victims being from the younger population. This trend has raised serious concern among health officials.

In response, the department has formed a 10-member expert committee under the leadership of Principal Secretary Harsha Gupta. The committee includes senior cardiologists and health experts from Bengaluru’s Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and the Directorate of Medical Education.

The committee’s mandate is to conduct a scientific investigation into the root causes of the sudden spike in heart attack cases. It will gather data on local health conditions, assess risk factors, and analyze lifestyle patterns that may be contributing to the crisis.

Preliminary observations suggest that stress, sedentary lifestyles, and dietary habits could be major triggers. However, the committee aims to establish evidence-based conclusions through a systematic study. In addition to identifying causes, the panel will work closely with local health centers to provide immediate treatment guidelines, ensure early detection, and deliver proper intervention for those at risk. A comprehensive awareness campaign will also be launched to educate the public about heart health and preventive measures.

The government is expected to implement long-term health strategies based on the committee’s recommendations, aiming to prevent such tragedies in the future and improve the overall cardiac health of the region’s population.
