A grave allegation has emerged against one of Bengaluru’s leading cancer care institutions — Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd. (HCG). The controversy centers on irregularities in clinical trials conducted within the hospital. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has now initiated a formal investigation.
According to retired judge P. Krishnabhatt, who served as the head of the hospital’s internal ethics committee, clinical trials at HCG were being conducted in a manner that violated ethical and legal norms. He claimed that he had repeatedly warned the hospital’s senior management — both in writing and in person — but his concerns were ignored.
Following the lack of response from the hospital's leadership, Justice Krishnabhatt tendered his resignation from the ethics committee. Shortly after his exit, HCG’s CEO and Medical Director also stepped down. Several senior doctors have reportedly quit the institution as well, raising further concerns about the credibility and internal crisis within the organization.

Due to the serious nature of the accusations, Karnataka’s health department escalated the issue to the central government, urging for a comprehensive probe. In response, the CDSCO has taken up the matter and is currently examining the hospital’s clinical trial procedures, documentation, and compliance with regulatory standards.
This case has triggered widespread alarm in the medical community, as it raises critical questions about patient safety, ethical oversight, and transparency in clinical research across India’s healthcare sector. Further developments are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
