Significance and Importance of Nag PanchamiNag Panchami is one of the most significant Hindu festivals in Indian culture, celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Shravan month, typically falling in July or August. In 2025, Nag Panchami will be observed on July 29. This day is dedicated to the worship of serpents (Nagas), which hold a special place in Indian mythology and culture.   1. Preparation:

    • Begin the day with a bath and wear clean clothes.

    • In some regions, devotees visit snake pits (anthills) to perform the puja.

  1. Puja Materials:

    • Milk, flowers (especially lotus or jasmine), kumkum, turmeric, sandalwood paste, rice, fruits, sweets (like kheer or laddus), betel leaves, durva grass, lamps, and incense sticks.

    • Some use gold or silver idols of serpents for worship.

  2. Puja Procedure:

    • Sankalp: Declare the purpose of the puja (e.g., for family well-being or to mitigate Kuj Dosha).

    • Ganesha Puja: Begin with a prayer to Lord Ganesha, as is customary for auspicious rituals.

    • Abhishekam: Bathe the idol or stone with water, milk, or Gangajal (holy water).

    • Decoration: Adorn the idol with kumkum, turmeric, sandalwood paste, and flowers.

    • Offerings: Offer milk, fruits, and sweets as naivedya (sacred offerings).

    • Mantra Chanting: Chant mantras such as:

  1. Visiting Snake Pits:

    • Some devotees visit anthills to offer milk, kumkum, and rice. However, environmentalists advise against offering milk directly to snake pits, as it may harm snakes.

  2. Fasting:

    • Many observe a fast until evening, consuming only sattvic (pure) food, often without salt, after completing the puja.
