Noida: Women are making remarkable strides across all fields, leaving no domain untouched. Just as Sonali Mishra assumed the role of Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), another woman, Medha Roopam, has taken charge as the first female District Magistrate of Noida. A 2014-batch IAS officer, Medha Roopam has now been appointed as the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Medha Roopam is the daughter of Gyanesh Kumar, India’s Chief Election Commissioner and a retired IAS officer. The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, recently issued transfer orders for 23 IAS officers, under which Roopam was appointed to Gautam Buddh Nagar. The previous District Magistrate, Manish Kumar Verma, has been transferred to Prayagraj.
Medha Roopam’s husband, Manish Bansal, is also a 2014-batch IAS officer and is currently serving in Saharanpur.
Born in Agra, Roopam graduated with a degree in Economics from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. Beyond her administrative career, she is a national-level rifle shooter and holds a state-level record in the 10-meter air rifle event.
Roopam began her career as an Assistant Magistrate in Bareilly and later served as Joint Magistrate in Meerut and Unnao. She has also held positions as Joint Director of the Uttar Pradesh Administration and Management Academy in Lucknow, Special Secretary in the Women’s Welfare Department, and Chief Development Officer in Barabanki.
