Child Kidnapped and Murdered: Driver Arrested in Bengaluru

In a sprawling city like Bengaluru, a situation has arisen where trust in relationships has become questionable. The recent incident serves as a stark example of how some individuals are willing to commit heinous acts for money, highlighting the erosion of trust even in familiar relationships.

Bengaluru: On July 30, 2025, a 13-year-old boy named Nischith was kidnapped, and his parents received a ransom call demanding ₹5 lakh. Tragically, the boy was subsequently murdered, and his body was set on fire in Anekal, Bengaluru.

The perpetrator of this crime was none other than Gurumurthy, a driver who had worked for Nischith’s family. He was assisted by an accomplice named Venugopal.

On the evening of July 30, as Nischith was returning home on his bicycle after attending tuition classes, Gurumurthy and Venugopal intercepted him, luring him with the promise of buying him pani puri.

Since Gurumurthy was known to the family, Nischith likely trusted him and went along. However, the duo kidnapped him. When Nischith did not return home by 7 PM, his parents began searching for him and found only his bicycle abandoned in Shantiniketan Layout. Suspecting foul play, they filed a missing person complaint at the Hulimavu police station around 10:30 PM on Wednesday. Later, at around 1:15 AM, the parents received a call from an unknown foreign number. Speaking in Hindi, the kidnappers informed them that their son had been abducted and demanded ₹5 lakh for his release. The distressed parents agreed to pay the ransom and pleaded for their son’s safe return.

The kidnappers promised to provide details about the release location the next morning but disconnected the call. However, the parents did not immediately inform the police about the ransom call. Tragically, events did not unfold as hoped. Gurumurthy and Venugopal murdered Nischith, slit his throat, poured petrol on his body, and set it on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The discovery of Nischith’s partially burnt body on July 31 near Bannerghatta-Gottigere Road left his parents in profound shock. When police attempted to apprehend the suspects, they tried to flee. In response, the police shot both Gurumurthy and Venugopal in the legs, leading to their arrest near Kaggalipura Road. Both suspects are currently undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital, and further interrogation is underway.
