Pence has criticized the proposed 50% tariff hike on Indian goods, stating it is harmful to American companies and consumers. He cited the example of Ford’s financial losses, noting in a tweet that tariffs lead to losses rather than development.

Pence posted on his X account, stating, “American companies and consumers are the ones bearing the cost of tariffs.”


According to an article, Ford Motor Company, despite manufacturing most of its cars in the U.S., paid $800 million in tariff-related costs in the second quarter of 2025.

Ford’s Commercial Challenges

According to a Bloomberg report, Ford’s CEO Jim Farley stated that the company is in continuous discussions with the Trump administration to reduce tariffs. Despite producing 1.8 million vehicles in the U.S. and employing 57,000 workers, Ford estimates it could face a $3 billion annual profit loss due to tariffs.

Citing this development as a vivid example, there is growing indirect pressure within the U.S. for Trump to reconsider his tariff decisions.
