Karnataka is experiencing persistent rainfall across the state. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is expected in several districts from August 9 to 13, 2025. Coastal Karnataka, Malenadu, South Interior, and North Interior districts are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-50 km/h, accompanied by torrential rain.

Due to this rainfall, many districts are already seeing overflowing streams and rivulets, leading to disruptions in road traffic. Some areas are flooded, causing inconvenience to daily life. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, with heavy showers possible in some areas.Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu are forecasted to experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.

Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Mandya, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar may see intermittent heavy showers. Bagalkote, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Gadag, Raichur, Ballari, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Haveri, and Yadgir are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Yellow alerts have been issued for some districts, while coastal and Malenadu regions had red alerts for a few days.

The heavy rain has caused disruptions across the state. In Kolar district’s Gangammana Palya, water has entered homes, and roads are flooded. In H.D. Kote taluk, roads have turned slushy. Streams and rivulets are overflowing, and standing water in agricultural fields raises concerns about crop damage. Bengaluru is likely to see cloudy weather with light rain, but caution is advised due to thunderstorms and lightning.

While heavy rainfall is beneficial for agriculture, farmers must take precautions. Prioritize the maintenance of ponds and reservoirs for rainwater harvesting. Create drainage systems in low-lying fields. Avoid open areas during thunderstorms and lightning. Utilize this period for sowing crops like paddy, ragi, and maize.

The public should remain vigilant about flooding, landslides, and traffic disruptions caused by rain. District administrations have set up helplines, and people are urged to follow IMD guidelines. Water levels in reservoirs like Tunga and Krishnarajasagara are rising, so monitoring inflows is crucial.
