In Etah district, Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old girl named Bhavana Singh, a Class 10 student at Siddharth Inter College in Jalesar, expressed her desire to continue her education and register for her exams. However, her parents, Digambar Singh and Lata Devi, rejected her request, citing a lack of funds. When Bhavana insisted on pursuing education for herself and her younger brother, her father, Digambar Singh, allegedly assaulted her at home and on the Agra-Jalesar road.A passerby, Ankit Pradhan, witnessed the assault and intervened to protect Bhavana. He took her, her brother, and her mother to the Jalesar police checkpoint.
However, Lata Devi fled the scene with her son. Bhavana filed a complaint, alleging that her father beat her and expelled her from home. She demanded arrangements for her and her brother’s education and legal action against her parents.A case has been registered at Jalesar police station under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act (punishment for cruelty to children) against Digambar Singh and Lata Devi. As the parents failed to appear in court, Jalesar SHO Sudhir Kumar was appointed as Bhavana’s guardian.
To support her education, Sudhir Kumar provided ₹2,000 for school registration, books, uniforms, and other expenses. Efforts are underway to enroll Bhavana in a reputable residential school, such as Kasturba Gandhi or Sainik Vidyalaya, within a month, with arrangements to bring her from Noida for the process.
