The downpour, caused by the intensified southwest monsoon, inundated key areas like Silk Board Junction, Hebbal, Ramamurthy Nagar, Kasturi Nagar, and Electronic City.

Low-lying areas such as Sai Layout, Whitefield, and Mahadevapura saw severe waterlogging, with some homes reporting water ingress, raising health concerns among locals.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert, forecasting moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms for the next three hours (5:50 PM to 8:50 PM IST) across Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Chikkaballapura districts.

The city recorded a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 20°C, with 90% humidity. The IMD predicts cloudy skies with continued rain on August 11 and 12, with temperatures ranging between 20°C and 29°C. The Karnataka State Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) warned that rainfall intensity could increase from August 14, further impacting traffic and daily activities.

Traffic snarls were reported across the city, with Silk Board witnessing a 10-km-long jam, exacerbating the area’s usual congestion. Bengaluru Traffic Police issued alerts on X, advising commuters to avoid waterlogged routes like Waddarapalya-Hennur, Ramamurthy Nagar-Kasturi Nagar service road, and Nagavara-Veerannapalya road.

In Jayanagar, a fallen tree damaged vehicles, leading to the temporary closure of East End Road. The city’s inadequate drainage system highlighted infrastructure challenges, with residents voicing frustration over uncleaned drains.

Authorities recommended using alternate routes and provided the emergency helpline 112. Social media buzzed with videos of flooded streets, with some residents humorously noting, “Bengaluru isn’t ready for the rain, but the rain loves Bengaluru.” The persistent showers are set to challenge the city’s mobility and infrastructure in the coming days.
