Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), without finding solutions to the problems in its Namma Clinics and ignoring urgent necessities, has decided to purchase 100 LED TVs — sparking public outrage. Despite shortages of medicines, delayed salaries for staff, and a lack of doctors, tenders have been called to procure 43-inch LED TVs.

Namma Clinics are increasingly becoming disorganized. With no adequate doctors, empty medicine stocks, and staff not receiving salaries on time, BBMP has now planned to spend ₹49,000 on each TV, with a total of 100 TVs to be bought. Sources say the Congress government has also approved this purchase.

Observing this move, the public has questioned: “Why adorn the bun with flowers when there’s no bread for the stomach?” They allege that while the clinics remain empty, the Palike is giving priority to showy purchases.

“There are no medicines, no doctors, no salaries for staff — in such a situation, the plan to buy TVs has brought public ridicule,” posted the head of a local citizens’ organization on X.

The total expenditure for this purchase will be about ₹49 lakh, and the tender process has already started. However, this decision has raised serious questions about BBMP’s financial discipline and priorities. Political analysts say that instead of spending on TVs, funds should be used to provide medicines and staff to clinics — and that the public does not support this decision.
