Prominent American economist Jeffrey Sachs analyzed the US's economic policies towards India, expressing a concerning view that American politicians are often indifferent to the country. According to Sachs, even though India is a major power, it is unlikely to gain any significant security benefits by aligning with the US in the Quad (a group including Australia, India, Japan, and the US) against China. He openly shared his views on the US-India relationship, providing a realistic perspective on the nature of international conflicts.

Sachs also critiqued President Donald Trump's 50% tariff on Indian imports, calling it "illegal" in effect. He urged India to develop a diverse export strategy and reduce its strategic dependence on the US. To achieve this, he suggested India consider joining the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a trade bloc that could provide reliable regional economic partners.
