High Court Bats for Rajinikanth: What is the Film Piracy Case?

Ahead of the release of Rajinikanth-starrer 'Coolie', the Madras High Court has issued an injunction to 36 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and five cable TV networks to prevent piracy. This measure aims to protect the financial interests of the producers and ensure the economic stability of the film industry.

The film 'Coolie', directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Rajinikanth, is set to release on August 14. The movie has already recorded strong advance ticket sales, raising high expectations. However, to prevent significant losses to the producers due to film piracy, the Madras High Court has taken decisive action.

Led by Justice Senthil Kumar Ramamoorthy, the High Court has issued an interim injunction to 36 ISPs to block "rogue websites" and the broadcasting of pirated versions, aiming to prevent unauthorized harm to the film.

The court's action is intended to safeguard the financial interests of the film producers. It has emphasized that preventing piracy is essential to protect their rights and maintain the financial stability of the entertainment industry.

Furthermore, ISPs are required to block access to both new and existing websites that host or broadcast pirated versions. This will enable effective action against digital piracy.
