Yellow Line Metro Fines Cause Commuter Woes: ₹50 Penalty for Waiting Over 20 Minutes!

Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro has imposed a ₹50 fine on passengers waiting at stations for more than 20 minutes, leading to confusion and frustration among commuters. The new rule, aimed at managing crowds, is creating challenges for passengers on this recently launched line.

On August 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro with much fanfare. Since its launch, the line has seen over 10 lakh passengers, with trains packed to capacity from day one. However, new regulations introduced for this line are causing inconvenience to commuters. One such rule prohibits passengers from waiting at a station for more than 20 minutes, with a ₹50 fine imposed for violations.

A recent incident highlights the issue: a passenger traveling from Silk Board to R.V. Road purchased a ticket but couldn’t board the train due to overcrowding. After waiting 25 minutes for the next train, they were fined ₹50 by BMRC staff upon exiting the station. While the rule has been in effect since the Yellow Line’s launch, it contrasts with other metro lines where trains run every three to ten minutes during peak hours, making fines for extended waiting more justifiable.

On the Yellow Line, however, only three trains are currently operational, with a 25-minute gap between services. This limited frequency is causing delays and confusion, leaving passengers frustrated by both the wait times and the unexpected penalties.
