A New Experiment in Malayalam Cinema! Weekend Cinematic Universe Captivates Audiences

Starting with Minnal Murali, the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU) has created a new wave in Malayalam cinema through its unique stories blending humor, adventure, and suspense. Each film draws inspiration from the previous one, building the next chapter in the narrative.

While Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Lokesh Cinematic Universe captivates audiences with its action-thriller stories, Malayalam cinema has crafted its own distinctive shared universe, known as the Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU). In the WCU, films feature interconnected stories, with each new release drawing inspiration from the previous film to construct the next storyline.

The WCU began with the 2021 release of Minnal Murali. Starring Tovino Thomas, this film was a massive success. The story revolves around Jaison, an ordinary young man who becomes Kerala’s first indigenous superhero after a freak lightning strike. The film introduced audiences to a fresh take on a superhero narrative.

Following the success of Minnal Murali, the second film in the WCU, Detective Ujwalan, was released. Featuring Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead role as a small-town youth, the film follows a storyline where his mind grapples with a serial killer or a shadowy enemy. With a blend of suspense and humor, this film further expanded the unique style of the WCU.

The films in the WCU offer audiences a fresh experience, combining humor, adventure, and suspense to tell stories in a novel way.
