Mandya – The distribution of eggs at the government senior primary school in Alakere village, Mandya district, has recently sparked a major controversy, resulting in over 70 children being enrolled in other schools. According to reports, the school in Alakere village decided to provide eggs to students as part of the government’s mid-day meal program. However, due to religious restrictions associated with the nearby Veerabhadraswamy temple, local residents and parents strongly opposed this decision. The community stated that the consumption of non-vegetarian food, including eggs, is prohibited around the temple, and this rule should extend to the school. As a result, out of 124 students, parents of over 70 children withdrew them from the Alakere school and enrolled them in the government school in nearby Keelara village and other institutions.
