Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort. In a post on his social media account, the Chief Minister stated that Modi's actions were an insult to the ideals of the Constitution, the freedom struggle, and the national flag.
Siddaramaiah alleged that by felicitating an organization that did not participate in the freedom struggle and had, until recently, refused to hoist the tricolor national flag at its office, the Prime Minister has misused his position. He claimed that no previous Prime Minister has ever politically misused the solemn platform of Independence Day in such a manner.

The Chief Minister further stated that there are no historical records of RSS leaders participating in the freedom movement. He questioned why, after not mentioning the RSS on Independence Day for the past 11 years, the Prime Minister chose to praise them this time, alleging it was for popularity rather than genuine admiration.
