Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has welcomed the significant GST (Goods and Services Tax) reforms announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent Independence Day speech.
Key Highlights of Bommai's Statement:
Basavaraj Bommai stated that the Prime Minister's announcement will be a major benefit for both traders and consumers.
He explained that the primary objective of simplifying the GST system is to reduce the tax burden on the common people.
Describing the move as a "Double Dhamaka" (double bonanza) for the country's people this Diwali, Bommai expressed confidence that the entire nation would welcome these reforms.
Proposed Reforms by the Modi Government:
The government is considering simplifying GST rates and reducing the number of tax slabs.
There is a possibility of abolishing the current 12% and 28% rates and replacing them with two main rates of 5% and 18%.
The goal is to directly benefit consumers by lowering the tax rates on essential daily-use items.
This announcement is expected to pave the way for the next phase of GST reforms, which are also anticipated to be a great help to small businesses and MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).
