The primary objective of the meeting was to finalize the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate for the vice-presidential election scheduled for September 9, 2025. The NDA has entrusted PM Modi and J.P. Nadda with the authority to select the candidate.This meeting holds significant importance as it precedes the nomination deadline of August 21, 2025.
With 422 out of 786 votes, the NDA commands a majority in the electoral college. Potential candidates include Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. The BJP is prioritizing a candidate aligned with its ideological roots and representing backward or most backward communities.
