Under Karnataka’s Shakti Scheme, women can travel for free on KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC buses. From June 11, 2023, to July 25, 2025, approximately 500 crore women have benefited from this initiative, earning it a prestigious place in the Golden Book of World Records.

The Shakti Scheme, launched by the Karnataka government, provides free bus travel for women across the state. This initiative allows women to travel at no cost on buses operated by KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and KKRTC, promoting accessibility and empowerment.Between June 11, 2023, and July 25, 2025, an estimated 500 crore women have utilized this scheme, marking a historic milestone.

This remarkable achievement has earned the Shakti Scheme a distinguished entry in the Golden Book of World Records. Data indicates that women in Bengaluru and Hubballi-Dharwad have particularly embraced the free bus travel facility. The scheme has also contributed to increased revenue for the state’s transport corporations.
