A tragic accident occurred on National Highway 48 near Motebennur in Byadagi taluk, Haveri district, when a private bus lost control, collided with a road divider, and overturned. The incident claimed the lives of two passengers on the spot, while six others sustained serious injuries.

The incident claimed the lives of two passengers on the spot, while six others sustained serious injuries. The deceased have been identified as Arnavi (11) and Yash (20), who succumbed at the scene. The bus was carrying approximately 35 passengers, of whom 29 escaped without life-threatening injuries. The impact caused the bus to crash into the divider and tilt to one side. Local residents and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene, rushing the injured to Haveri District Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Upon receiving the news, Byadagi police and Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagodi visited the site to conduct an inspection.
Fire brigade personnel and police carried out a rescue operation for over an hour and a half, extricating the injured from the wreckage and transporting them to the hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver’s negligence and excessive speed were the primary causes of the accident. The collision with the divider on the national highway amplified the severity of the incident. A case has been registered at Byadagi Police Station, and the investigation is ongoing. The incident has sparked anxiety among Motebennur residents, who have expressed concerns over the frequent accidents on National Highway 48.
