On August 19, 2025, in Udupi, Brahmavar police arrested social activist Mahesh Shetty Timarodi for allegedly making defamatory statements against BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh. Based on a complaint by Rajeev Kulal, an FIR was registered at Brahmavar police station under sections BSN 196(1), 352, and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code.

Shetty is accused of using derogatory language against Santhosh and inciting hatred among different religious communities. Additionally, he allegedly shared social media posts that could provoke attacks on religious institutions. In a related incident, on August 9, 2025, a Facebook post by Kota Vasant Giliyar, featuring a map of Dharmasthala, was accused of containing messages that could incite religious unrest targeting temples and mosques.
