Reports of increasing accidents in the city are a cause for concern. It's alarming that children are also falling victim to these accidents while crossing roads. To address this, Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesh has reportedly instructed the Department of School Education to make mandatory traffic awareness programs in schools.
Chairing the District Road Safety Committee meeting today, he advised education officials that children should cross roads with the help of school ayahs, school bus drivers must undergo mandatory checks, and school buses should not carry more children than the permitted limit. To control accidents, he also instructed officials to identify accident-prone areas and install black spot signboards.
Action plans and implementation strategies on these measures have been requested from various departments through a PPT presentation. The meeting was attended by officials from the Department of School Education, National Highways Authority of India, KSRTC, BMTC, and other departments.
