Despite a recent lull in rainfall across Karnataka, the influx of water from Maharashtra has inundated villages, disrupted transportation, and devastated agricultural lands, plunging local communities and farmers into distress. The situation remains critical as district administrations scramble to manage the crisis.

In Belagavi, the worst-affected district, the Krishna River and its tributaries have submerged over 45 bridges, severely impacting connectivity in taluks like Khanapur, Chikkodi, and Nippani. For instance, the Sheelhalli-Hanchinal bridge’s submersion has isolated villages like Kaddaragaddi, Yarigodi, and Hanchinal, forcing residents to take 45-km detours to reach taluk centers.India Monsoon: Landslide in Mumbai Due to Heavy Rain Claims Two Lives; IMD Issues Red Alert..

The district administration has diverted traffic to alternative routes and declared holidays for schools and colleges in affected areas, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan. Floodwaters have also inundated low-lying areas, with reports of over 26,674 hectares of crops destroyed, causing significant financial losses for farmers.

In Bagalkote, villages like Sharpali, Muttur, and Nandagaon in Jamkhandi and Mudhol taluks have been cut off, resembling islands due to flooding from the Krishna River. The Rajapur barrage’s release of over 1.4 lakh cusecs of water threatens to submerge Masuti village entirely.

Similarly, Yadgir faces severe disruptions, with the Narayanpur reservoir releasing 1.6 lakh cusecs, submerging the Sheelhalli bridge and isolating over 12 villages. The rising water levels have heightened flood risks, particularly in riverside communities, where residents fear further crop losses and infrastructure damage.Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Life in Raichur: District Collector’s Office Road Submerged..!

Agriculture, a lifeline for these districts, has been hit hard. Crops like paddy, maize, and pulses have been submerged, exacerbating economic challenges for farmers. In Belagavi alone, the destruction of crops across vast tracts has left rural livelihoods in jeopardy. Bagalkote and Yadgir report similar losses, with farmers awaiting government relief to recover from the financial blow. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre notes that the state has already recorded 16% excess rainfall this monsoon, compounding the flooding crisis.

In response, district administrations have set up over 50 relief centers in Belagavi, with similar efforts in Bagalkote and Yadgir. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively engaged in rescue operations, relocating affected residents to safety.Karnataka Braces for Heavy Rainfall as IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts..!

Authorities have issued warnings against approaching riverbanks, and police have barricaded flooded areas to prevent accidents. As the region braces for potential further water releases, officials are closely monitoring reservoir levels to mitigate downstream flooding, urging residents to remain vigilant.
