The Supreme Court has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by retired Justice Jasti Chelameswar to probe allegations against the Ambani-owned Vantara Wildlife Preservation and Rehabilitation Centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This order was issued on August 25, 2025, by a bench comprising Justices Pankaj Mithal and Prasanna B. Varale during the hearing of two Public Interest Litigations (PILs). The allegations against Vantara include illegal wildlife relocation, capture of elephants, financial irregularities, and money laundering.

Allegations regarding Vantara’s location near an industrial zone.
Wildlife smuggling, private collections, and misuse of biodiversity resources.

Vantara, envisioned by Anant Ambani and operated by the Reliance Foundation, is a wildlife preservation center spread across 3,000 acres in the green belt of the Reliance Refinery Complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
