50% Tariff on Indian Imports Effective Today: Major Blow to Farmers and Small Businesses!

Starting today, the U.S. has imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, bringing the total duty to 50%, intensifying trade tensions.

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, raising the total duty to 50%. This decision, framed as a penalty for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil, was confirmed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to take effect from August 27, 2025.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the move as “unfair and unjustified,” highlighting its potential to directly impact farmers, small entrepreneurs, and Indian exporters. The increased tariffs are expected to raise the cost of Indian goods in the U.S. market, undermining their competitiveness. Limited exemptions have been granted for certain products with proper documentation until September 17.
