Karnataka Sees 2 Rapes and 16 Sexual Assault Cases Daily: 1,888 Rape Cases in 2.5 Years, But Zero Convictions!

2024 (Jan–July): The state registered 549 cases in 221 days, which is about 2.48 cases per day. Total (2.5 years): Across 912 days, 1,888 rape cases were filed, averaging 2.07 cases/day, closely aligning with the reported “2 per day.”

Karnataka: According to data gathered from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and other sources, Karnataka has been recording an average of 2 rape cases and 16 sexual assault cases every single day. Shockingly, over a span of 2.5 years (from 2022 to mid-2024), a total of 1,888 rape cases were registered, with no convictions reported so far—a deeply alarming and disturbing reality.

Breakdown of Statistics:

Rape Cases:

2022: As per NCRB data, Karnataka reported 600 rape cases, averaging about 1.64 cases per day (600 ÷ 365).

2023: The numbers remained consistent with 600 cases, again averaging 1.64 per day.

2024 (Jan–July): The state registered 549 cases in 221 days, which is about 2.48 cases per day.

Total (2.5 years): Across 912 days, 1,888 rape cases were filed, averaging 2.07 cases/day, closely aligning with the reported “2 per day.”Monte Carlo Mens Solid Lace Up Genuine Leather Casual Shoes (201803FW)

Sexual Assault Cases:

Under IPC Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 6,201 cases were reported in 2022, which amounts to around 17 cases per day (6,201 ÷ 365).

This supports the “16 per day” claim, though slightly higher.

Notably, POCSO Act cases (related to sexual offences against minors) accounted for 3,141 of these.

Conviction Rates:

2021: 11.7% conviction rate

2022: 8.4% conviction rate

2023: 3.6% conviction rate

Rape by Acquaintances:

A large number of rape cases involve perpetrators known to the victims, including relatives and acquaintances. A growing trend involves romantic partners who promise marriage, engage in physical intimacy, and later back out—leading to rape complaints filed by the aggrieved women. These types of cases are becoming increasingly common, and while they highlight emotional manipulation, they also raise questions about legal interpretation and societal dynamics.
