The Karnataka government has introduced a new administrative framework for Bengaluru following the dissolution of BBMP. The city has now been divided into five municipal corporations: Bengaluru Central, North, South, East, and West. These corporations have been formed by slightly expanding the existing BBMP zones.Each municipal corporation will have a Commissioner, a position reserved for Secretary-level IAS officers.
Additionally, each corporation will have an Additional Commissioner, resulting in a total of 10 IAS officers managing these entities.Furthermore, senior-level Joint Commissioner positions have been allocated for every two zones within the municipal corporations, to be filled by Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officers. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be led by a Chief Commissioner, an IAS officer of Principal Secretary rank or higher.
The GBA will also have four Special Commissioners to oversee key departments such as Administration, Revenue, Information Technology, Health and Education, Elections, Disaster Management, and Finance.For security and regulation, two IPS officer positions have been assigned: an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and a Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF).The government expects this new administrative structure to enhance the efficiency and smooth functioning of Bengaluru’s municipal corporations.
