Supreme Court- The Supreme Court of India, on September 2, 2025, dismissed pleas seeking to cancel the bail granted to Mohammad Javed, an accused in the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The decision was made by a bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma, who considered that only eight out of over 170 witnesses had been examined by the prosecution and noted that Javed was a teenager at the time of the incident. The pleas were filed by Kanhaiya Lal’s son, Yash Teli, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), challenging the Rajasthan High Court’s order granting bail to Javed on September 5, 2024, due to insufficient evidence of his involvement in the conspiracy.
Case Background:-
Kanhaiya Lal Teli, a tailor, was brutally beheaded on June 28, 2022, in his shop in Udaipur’s Hathipole area by two assailants, Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Ghaus Mohammad, for allegedly supporting a social media post by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The NIA alleged that Javed played a key role by conducting reconnaissance and providing information about Lal’s whereabouts to the main accused. The murder, captured on video and circulated online, sparked nationwide outrage and was investigated by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various Indian Penal Code sections.
Legal Proceedings:-
-The Rajasthan High Court granted bail to Javed, citing a lack of clear evidence regarding his location and involvement in the conspiracy, as the NIA could not substantiate claims with call details or other evidence.
The Supreme Court, while hearing the appeals, declined to interfere with the High Court’s decision, effectively upholding Javed’s bail.YUISI Sun Hat for Men Women, Breathable Summer Hat for Travel, Hiking, Gardening, Sun Hats for Men & Round Sun Cap for Hiking, Hats for Women Indoor Outdoor Activities
- Conclusion:
The Supreme Court’s refusal to cancel Mohammad Javed’s bail reinforces the Rajasthan High Court’s stance, highlighting the need for concrete evidence in such cases. The trial against the accused, including charges under UAPA, continues in a special NIA court in Jaipur.also read: Rajendra, Son of MLA K.N.
