The telephone tapping case, which sparked widespread curiosity across the state, saw the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitting a B-report. Consequently, the previous BJP government, led by then-Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, decided to drop the departmental inquiry against Alok Kumar and other police officers. However, the order to discontinue the inquiry was never officially published.
