The boy, a native of Cuttack district, was a student at a madrasa in Nilapalli. Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s father, the murder took place in an abandoned bathroom within the madrasa premises, and the body was dumped in an unused septic tank.

Bhubaneswar: A horrific incident of sexual assault and murder of a minor boy has been reported from a madrasa in Nayagarh district, Odisha. The victim was allegedly subjected to prolonged sexual abuse by his seniors, according to reports. Five juveniles have been apprehended in connection with the case. The boy, a native of Cuttack district, was a student at a madrasa in Nilapalli. Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s father, the murder took place in an abandoned bathroom within the madrasa premises, and the body was dumped in an unused septic tank.

Assault and Abuse by Seniors
On August 31, around 1 PM, two senior students allegedly assaulted the boy, causing him to lose consciousness. Believing him to be dead, the accused dumped his body in an empty septic tank. However, the boy managed to escape from the tank that night. On September 2, the two seniors lured him back to the same location. There, joined by three others, they assaulted him again, strangled him to death, and disposed of his body in the septic tank before fleeing the scene, police said. A forensic team collected evidence from the crime scene, and witness statements have corroborated the actions of the accused.

Juveniles Aged 12 to 15
The five apprehended juveniles, aged between 12 and 15, have been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The accused have confessed to the crime, according to police. The madrasa has removed the names of the five boys from its rolls, and police have seized their birth certificates. The case has been transferred to the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings.
