New Delhi, September 7, 2025 – In a major boost for India’s renewable energy sector, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on solar, wind, and other clean energy equipment has been reduced from 12% to 5%. This decision, aimed at promoting sustainable energy solutions, is expected to make solar panels, wind turbines, and related technologies more affordable for manufacturers, suppliers, and consumers.

The move is part of India’s broader commitment to accelerating its transition to green energy and achieving its climate goals. By lowering the tax burden, the government hopes to encourage wider adoption of renewable energy systems, fostering innovation and investment in the sector.

Industry experts have welcomed the decision, noting that the reduced GST rate will significantly lower costs, making clean energy projects more viable across the country. This step is seen as a critical move ahead of India’s ambitious renewable energy targets for 2030.

The GST Council has slashed the tax on renewable energy devices—including solar photovoltaic modules and wind turbine generators—from 12% to 5%, effective September 22, 2025.
