Girish Mattannavar, previously known as an activist in the Soujanya murder case, appeared for questioning at the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office today, September 8, 2025. The campaign for justice in the 2012 Soujanya murder case in Dharmasthala had initially aimed to seek accountability but later took a different turn. Allegations surfaced that Girish Mattannavar, along with Mahesh Thimmarodi and others, were attempting to tarnish the reputation of Dharmasthala, a revered pilgrimage center. These accusations gained traction following claims by the "mask man" Chinnayya, which appeared to lend credibility to the allegations.

Subsequently, Sujata Bhat claimed that her daughter, Ananya Bhat, was murdered during a trip to Dharmasthala and demanded the return of her remains. However, these claims were later proven false. Girish Mattannavar has denied all allegations, stating to the media that he has no connection to these claims and was eagerly awaiting the SIT investigation to clear his name. However, T. Jayanth, in a statement to the media, accused Girish Mattannavar of being the mastermind behind these events. Jayanth claimed that Girish Mattannavar, Chinnayya, and others held a meeting at his residence in Bengaluru, where they devised a blueprint for the recent search operations in Dharmasthala related to the case.
