Navya Nair faced a hefty fine of 1,980 Australian Dollars (around ₹1.14 lakh) at Melbourne International Airport after authorities detected jasmine flowers in her possession, as per reports.

Despite the substantial fine, the actress handled the incident with composure, describing it as a learning experience. Sharing a video with jasmine flowers on her Instagram account, Navya captioned it in Malayalam, “Drama before paying the fine!!!”

The incident occurred during her recent visit to Australia for an Onam celebration event organized by the Malayali Association of Victoria, according to Indian Express reports.

Speaking at a public event, Navya elaborated on the incident. She explained that before departing from Kochi, her father had bought jasmine flowers and divided them into two parts—one for her to wear during her journey to Singapore and the other to be kept in her handbag for later use, as per his request.

Navya recounted that she had a jasmine garland, about 15 cm long, in her carry-on bag when she was stopped at Melbourne Airport.

Acknowledging that carrying the flowers was against the law, Navya admitted it was an unintentional mistake. She stated, “Ignorance is not an excuse,” and noted that the authorities instructed her to pay the fine within 28 days.
