During a protest in Mandya's Maddur following a stone-pelting incident at a Ganesha idol immersion, a female youth was reportedly assaulted by police with a lathi, leaving her injured and in tears; police have taken more than 21 suspects into custody.

Police resorted to a minor lathi charge in Maddur, Mandya, following a stone-pelting incident during a Ganesha idol immersion procession. A male police officer allegedly assaulted a young woman with a lathi during the action, sparking widespread outrage.

The protest in Maddur was organized by youths from the BJP and other Hindu organizations in response to the Ganesha procession violence. Protesters were shouting "Jai Shri Ram" slogans when an argument broke out between them and the police.

As the situation escalated, police began a lathi charge. Even as protesters ran to escape, police pursued them and indiscriminately used their lathis. A video of a male officer relentlessly chasing and hitting a young woman with his lathi has gone viral.

Visibly frightened and in pain, the young woman cried out in distress and sat on the road, hitting her forehead and cursing the police. The situation in Maddur remains tense, and police have heightened security measures.

Police have detained more than 21 youths in connection with the stone-pelting incident.

According to officials, youths from another community were responsible for throwing stones during the Ganesha procession. The suspects were taken into custody overnight.
