In a sweet surprise for the festive season, the price of packaged milk is set to decrease! Due to a revision in the GST (Goods and Services Tax) rates by the government, major milk-producing brands like Amul and Mother Dairy will reduce their milk prices. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has directed that the full benefit of the GST rate cut be passed on to consumers.
When will the new rates take effect?
At the recent GST Council meeting, the 5% GST on packaged milk was removed, adding it to the list of GST-exempt products. The new rates will come into effect from September 22, 2025, coinciding with the start of Navratri. With festive shopping and milk consumption peaking during this period, this price reduction will bring much-needed relief to consumers.
