Maddur: A tense situation has gripped Maddur following a stone-pelting incident during a Ganesha idol immersion procession. A 'bandh' (shutdown) has been called today in response to the unrest. The incident has quickly escalated into a political firestorm, with ruling and opposition parties trading accusations over who is responsible for the communal tension.
The incident has drawn reactions from top state officials, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, District-in-charge Minister N. Cheluvanarayanaswamy, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara. Amid heated debate over the true cause of the clash, opposition leaders and activists have been vocal in their criticism.
The Congress party has accused the BJP of premeditated actions, alleging that the opposition is instigating the unrest. In contrast, the BJP has slammed the ruling government, claiming that while Muslims initiated the riot, Hindus are being unfairly blamed. BJP leaders have also voiced strong opposition to the government, accusing it of promoting "mob rule" in the name of secularism.
