Recent trade negotiations, however, have faced challenges due to high tariffs imposed by the US, including a 50% tariff on Indian imports, driven partly by disagreements over India’s trade barriers and its continued purchase of Russian oil. Despite these tensions, both sides have expressed optimism about reaching a trade deal. For instance, US President Donald Trump has indicated ongoing negotiations and a desire to resolve trade barriers, expressing confidence in concluding discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Similarly, Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has noted that talks are progressing rapidly, with a focus on a mutually beneficial agreement.
The alignment of these three countries may have led the US to reconsider its approach, realizing that India might not need its support as much anymore.
