On April 22, a horrific incident in Pehalgam, Kashmir, where terrorists targeted and killed 26 Hindus, shocked the entire world. To avenge this attack, India conducted Operation Sindoor, a mission that destroyed terrorist bases in Pakistan without causing harm to civilians. This operation garnered global attention. ISRO has now revealed a surprising fact: it utilized its Earth observation and communication satellites for Operation Sindoor. Over 400 scientists worked tirelessly around the clock to support the mission.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan disclosed this during a meeting in Delhi, stating that ISRO’s satellites provided critical information for national security, and all satellites performed flawlessly, ensuring the operation’s success. Aatmanirbhar Bharat’s Strength:The operation employed India’s indigenous drones, military equipment, and the Akash Teer defense system, developed under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. These defense systems also drew global attention. ISRO’s team played a pivotal role in contributing to the operation’s success.
Gaganyaan Mission: On the same occasion, Narayanan spoke about ISRO’s Gaganyaan mission. ISRO is preparing for India’s first manned space mission by 2027. Over 7,700 ground tests have already been conducted, with 2,300 more tests planned. The first unmanned mission is scheduled for December, and approval has been received for two crewed missions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set ambitious goals for ISRO: establishing India’s own space station by 2035 and landing an Indian astronaut on the moon by 2040.
