₹25 Lakh for a Seat? AIDSO Protests Against 15% NRI Quota in Karnataka’s Government Medical Colleges!

Every year, after NEET counseling, numerous medical aspirants fall into depression and some even take their lives. This is not just an attack on public education but a classist policy against the poor, middle class, and hardworking, talented students. The government must immediately withdraw this anti-student, anti-society NRI quota.”

Bengaluru, September 11, 2025 – The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) staged a protest at Freedom Park today, condemning the Karnataka government’s decision to implement a 15% NRI quota in government medical colleges.

Addressing the gathering, AIDSO Karnataka State Treasurer Subhash B.J. stated:

“Medicine is a noble profession meant to serve society and alleviate the suffering of the afflicted. However, by introducing the 15% NRI quota, the government is turning government medical colleges into a marketplace. A poor student from a rural background toils day and night to secure a medical seat, but they are sidelined in favor of affluent students who can pay ₹25 lakh annually. Will such a system produce compassionate doctors or merely businessmen in white coats?”YUISI Sun Hat for Men Women, Breathable Summer Hat for Travel, Hiking, Gardening, Sun Hats for Men & Round Sun Cap for Hiking, Hats for Women Indoor Outdoor Activities

Presiding over the protest, AIDSO District President Apoorva C.M. said:

“Karnataka has 24 government medical colleges with approximately 4,000 MBBS seats. Through this new quota, around 600 seats are being auctioned off. Already, over 12,447 teaching posts in these colleges remain vacant. Instead of filling these vacancies or establishing new government medical colleges to meet demand, the government is shamelessly selling existing seats. Every year, after NEET counseling, numerous medical aspirants fall into depression and some even take their lives. This is not just an attack on public education but a classist policy against the poor, middle class, and hardworking, talented students. The government must immediately withdraw this anti-student, anti-society NRI quota.”Bhojpuri Singer Devi Welcomes Son Using IVF: Through A German Sperm Bank
