The Karnataka Home Department has suspended Maddur Circle Inspector Shivakumar for dereliction of duty during the recent stone-pelting incident in the town. Additionally, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thimmaiah has been transferred. The official order does not specify his new posting.
The violence erupted during the Ganesha idol immersion procession in Maddur. According to the order, Inspector Shivakumar was not present at the scene to manage the situation, leading to his suspension. Naveen Kumar has been appointed to replace ASP Thimmaiah.
Speaking on the matter, Minister N. Cheluvarayan Swamy stated that Shivakumar’s suspension was a direct result of his negligence during the riot. However, he clarified that ASP Thimmaiah's transfer was a routine administrative decision and not related to the Maddur incident.
"Thimmaiah’s tenure had ended, and while I had requested an extension until December, the transfer is part of a normal process," he said. The minister praised Thimmaiah's performance and said the exact cause of the violence is still under investigation. He assured that more details would be shared once the official report is submitted.
