Uncensored 'The Bengal Files' Ready for Release in Kolkata... When? Here's the Info

Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, 'The Bengal Files' will be screened for the first time in Kolkata on September 13, 2025. Amidst an unofficial ban, this invite-only event has gained significance for the film's regional entry.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's recent film 'The Bengal Files' will have its first screening in Kolkata on September 13, 2025. This screening has been arranged a week after its nationwide release. It will be a special invite-only program at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Bhasha Bhavan in the National Library.

According to film producers Vivek Agnihotri and Pallavi Joshi, the film faced an unofficial ban in Kolkata. Pallavi Joshi has even written a letter to the President of India about this. Although it was widely released across the country, the film had not been screened in West Bengal until now. This current screening marks the film's official first entry into West Bengal.

As part of Agnihotri's popular "Truth Trilogy," 'The Bengal Files' uncovers a lesser-known chapter of India's history. Released nationwide on September 5, 2025, West Bengal theaters had refused to screen it so far. Former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta has confirmed this Kolkata event, which adds importance to the film's regional broadcast.

Scheduled for 4 PM, this screening is a private invite-only program. Reports indicate that state commercial theaters decided not to screen the film due to fears of potential political unrest. However, private screenings have taken place, indicating sustained interest among audiences despite limited access.

The Bengal Files' has earned acclaim across India for shedding light on a neglected historical narrative. Talented actors like Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar star in the film. Its absence from mainstream West Bengal theaters has only increased curiosity for this first Kolkata screening.
