Amroha Chicken Clash: Vegetarian Reena's Suicide Just 10 Months into Marriage; Body Dumped in Ganga, Followed by Missing Person..!

Authorities are investigating whether Reena's death was suicide or murder, with searches ongoing for the body and scrutiny of Nigam's statement. A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 80 (dowry death) and 238 (disappearance of evidence) against Nigam, his parents, and the two relatives.

Reena, a resident of Kokapur village in Adampur, Amroha district, had been married to Nigam Singh for just 10 months. On August 20, after consuming alcohol, Nigam brought chicken home and insisted on preparing chicken curry. As a strict vegetarian, Reena refused, leading to a minor argument that escalated into a heated confrontation. According to Nigam's statement, Reena, in a fit of anger, hanged herself and died.

Police Investigation and AllegationsPolice officials state that Nigam, who was intoxicated that night, assaulted Reena for refusing to cook. Terrified by the attack, she took her own life. However, Reena's mother, Kaushalya Devi, filed a complaint accusing the in-laws of harassing her for dowry and murdering her, then disposing of the body in the Ganga River to cover it up.

Concealment of the IncidentUpon discovering Reena's death after the family quarrel, Nigam, with the help of his brother Mahkar and cousin Bijendra Singh, wrapped her body in cloth and dumped it into the Ganga River, approximately 3 km away. Afterward, he went to the police station and filed a missing person report, claiming, "My wife Reena has run away; please find her." Police believe this was an attempt to mislead the investigation. During the probe, they recovered Reena's cloth (dupatta) from the Ganga, raising suspicions. Surveillance of Nigam's movements led to his arrest and interrogation, where he confessed: "Reena hanged herself due to the argument. With relatives' help, I disposed of the body in the river."
