"Deputy CM DK Shivakumar Will Become CM" This is the reason Siddaramaiah Conducting Caste Census to Secure Power: Bommai Accuses

Addressing concerns raised over alleged religious conversions to Christianity through the census process, Bommai claimed, "The Constitution recognizes only six religions, and people are supposed to report only those. However, the state has added a new column specifically for Christians who have converted. This is a covert attempt to legitimize and institutionalize conversions to Christianity."

Bengaluru, September 14, 2025 – The Karnataka government lacks the authority to conduct a caste census; only the Central government holds that power. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is set to become Chief Minister in December, and to firmly secure the chair, CM Siddaramaiah is orchestrating the caste enumeration survey, alleged BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai in a strong statement.

Responding to a question on allegations of religious conversions to Christianity through the caste census, Bommai stated that the Constitution recognizes only six religions, and respondents must list only those. "They have created a new column for Christians who have converted in the state. This is a way to legitimize one religion's conversions. It is illegal, unconstitutional, and politically motivated. Conversions happen on both sides, but why is the CM only endorsing conversions to Christianity? The CM has gone a step further and said conversion is their right," Bommai remarked. Also read: "I Swept Streets to Raise My Son... But!": Mother of Gokul, Killed in Hassan Tragedy, in Tears

He further highlighted that an anti-conversion law is already in force in the state. "The CM claims there is no equality in Hinduism. This is not a question of equality; it has come to light that conversions are happening by offering allurements. They are exploiting the poverty and lack of education of people to carry out conversions. Many have returned from Christianity. There are several suspicions regarding these conversions. Who gave them the authority to create a new column for converts in the caste enumeration? Where is this in the law? They have arbitrarily added it based on consultations with those around them," Bommai added.PALAY® Straw Hat Sun Hats for Women,Wide Brim Cap Beach Hat for Women Stylish UV Protection Cap,Summer Packable Travel Sun Visor Hat - UPF 50+

Background: Bommai's remarks come amid the ongoing Socio-Economic and Educational Survey (caste census) announced by CM Siddaramaiah, set to run from September 22 to October 7, 2025. The survey, led by the Commission for Backward Classes under Chairman Madhusudan Naik, aims to provide updated demographic data, with the final report expected by December 2025. Critics, including Bommai, argue it could be politically driven, especially with speculation around leadership changes in the Congress party. Also Read: Cricket and Patriotism: Should the India vs Pakistan Match in Asia Cup 2025 Proceed?

The controversy has intensified debates on religious conversions, with Bommai questioning the inclusion of a separate category for Christian converts, which he claims deviates from constitutional norms. The state government maintains the survey is essential for social justice and accurate reservation policies.
