Mandya: In a shocking incident in Hemmanahalli, Maddur Taluk, Mandya district, a housewife was found dead, hanging in her home. The deceased's parents have alleged that it was a murder. Following her death, the woman’s husband and his family members have gone missing, prompting her parents to stage a protest by placing her body in front of the husband’s house. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Harshitha. She had been married to Nandish eight years ago, and the couple has two children.

Allegations have surfaced that Harshitha was subjected to harassment by her husband for the past two years.After their marriage, the couple resided in Mallayyana Doddi village, Mandya taluk. It was in this house that Harshitha’s body was discovered. Her parents have accused Nandish and his family of killing her and staging the scene to look like a suicide. They have filed a complaint with the police, claiming that their daughter faced continuous harassment for the past two to three years. They also mentioned that a reconciliation meeting (panchayat) had been held earlier to address the issue. Following the post-mortem, Harshitha’s body was handed over to her parents. However, they have placed the body in front of Nandish’s house as part of their protest, demanding that Nandish and his family appear. They have vowed to perform the last rites at the same spot if their demands are not met.

A large crowd has gathered at the protest site, and village elders are attempting to pacify the parents. A case has been registered at the Mandya Rural Police Station, and the police have visited the site to begin their investigation.
