 Karnataka CM Announces Compensation for Crop Damage at Krishi Mela in Dharwad..!

This monsoon, sowing was carried out across 80 lakh hectares in the state due to good rainfall. However, excessive rain in some areas has damaged crops in approximately 5 lakh hectares.

Dharwad (Sept 16): Due to recent heavy rainfall, crops across 5 lakh hectares in the state have been damaged, and the state government will soon provide compensation following a joint survey, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Krishi Mela (Agricultural Fair) at the Farmers' Knowledge Enhancement Centre on the premises of the University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad. A joint survey by the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments is underway across all districts, and compensation will be provided as soon as the survey is completed, the Chief Minister assured.Currently, Gujarat holds the top position in milk production, while Karnataka ranks second. The state produces 1 crore liters of milk daily, and efforts are underway to make Karnataka number one in the coming days. Siddaramaiah advised farmers to engage in dairy farming, horticulture, and vegetable cultivation alongside agriculture to become economically stronger. The government is encouraging the cultivation of millets, which have low sugar content, and urged farmers to grow them in larger quantities. Only 40% of Karnataka’s land has irrigation facilities, while 60% depends on rainfall. Therefore, agricultural universities should conduct research on crops that can be optimally grown in rain-fed areas and transfer the technology to farmers, he suggested. Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy, District In-Charge Minister Santosh Lad, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, MLAs N.H. Konaraddi, Abbayya Prasad, F.H. Jakkappanavar, Srinivas Mane, Vijayanand Kashappanavar, HESCOM Chairman Azeem Peer Khadri, and HUDA Chairman Shakeer Sanadi were among those present.
