Uttarakhand’s Dehradun is grappling with heavy rainfall, with a fresh deluge causing chaos before the region could recover from a previous disaster. Torrential rains since late last night have caused the Tamsa River to overflow, submerging the historic Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have launched rescue operations. Such a situation hasn’t been witnessed in years, causing significant damage in several areas. “The sanctum sanctorum is safe, and no human casualties have been reported,” said temple priest Acharya Bipin Joshi.

The Dehradun District Magistrate has declared a holiday for schools, colleges, and anganwadis.Chief Minister’s Oversight Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami posted on X about the damage to shops in Sahastradhara due to heavy rainfall. “The district administration, SDRF, and police are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the local administration and personally monitoring the situation,” he stated.
Flooded Areas in the City Homes in areas like Mohini Road, Puran Basti, Bashir Road, Bhagat Singh Colony, and Sanjay Colony have been inundated. A recently built road near IT Park has been damaged, and a transformer in Adhoiwala, Upper Rajiv Nagar, was swept away. A bridge has also been reported damaged.
