This move faced widespread opposition from opposition parties and the Hindu community, with dissent also voiced within the Congress cabinet. Amid the controversy, questions have emerged about the necessity of the caste census. Several ministers have pressed CM Siddaramaiah to delay the survey, though he, along with ministers Santosh Lad, Muniyappa, and Bhairathi Suresh, favors continuing it in its current form.

CM Siddaramaiah expressed frustration over the opposition within his cabinet, reportedly reacting strongly during a cabinet meeting where ministers voiced their concerns forcefully. Sources claim that during the heated discussion, Siddaramaiah briefly left his seat and paced around an unprecedented reaction for him in such meetings. Today, September 19, 2025, at 10 AM, CM Siddaramaiah has called another cabinet meeting to discuss the caste census issues and likely finalize a decision on proceeding with a revised survey after removing the controversial categories.

The meeting will include Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar and ministers such as H.K. Patil, Eshwar Khandre, Santosh Lad, Bhairathi Suresh, M.B. Patil, and Shivaraj Tangadagi, among others.I Fully Support Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Fraud Allegations: D.K. Shivakumar
