In relation to the 2012 Soujanya rape and murder case, the people of Dharmasthala village have lodged a formal complaint against Soujanya's maternal uncle, Vithal Gouda, with the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Dharmasthala resident Sandeep Rai visited the SIT office in Belthangady and registered an official complaint against Vithal Gouda.

As detailed in the complaint, the sacred atmosphere of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala is being tarnished. On social media, discussions about Dharmasthala focus more on crimes, skeletons, and ancestral spirits rather than devotion. This is damaging the village's peace and sanctity.

Vithal Gouda, who was summoned to Banglegudde twice as a witness, has been giving subtle statements about skeletons and sorcery even while the investigation is ongoing. After the SIT interrogation concluded, Vithal Gouda gave interviews to YouTube channels, leading to the broadcast of videos. The complaint accuses that even as the SIT has not released any information, Vithal Goud has been making public statements to evade the probe. It further alleges that Vithal Gouda has conspired with certain individuals to derail the investigation. He claims to have recorded videos but has refused to hand them over to the authorities. He has admitted to personally retrieving skulls from Banglegudde. However, he has not explained who guided him to the location or what his true intentions were. Consequently, the complainant has demanded a thorough investigation into Vithal Gouda's actions.
