MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal stated that he would accept the resolutions of the Veerashaiva Lingayat Unity Conference held in Hubballi only if participants agree to identify themselves as Hindus in the caste census. Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, he demanded that those opposing Hinduism should first discard saffron and ochre clothing.
In this context, Yatnal launched a scathing attack on Nijagunananda Swamiji, criticizing the seer's claims of similarities between Islam and Lingayat faiths. Yatnal questioned, "If they question Lakshmi Puja, why should they apply vibhuti? Why use cow dung to make vibhuti?" In an outburst, he remarked, "If needed, let them make vibhuti from dog or pig dung and apply it!" His statements have once again made him the center of controversy. Furthermore, Yatnal asserted that he would not attend any gathering that insults Hinduism, emphasizing that saffron clothing is a symbol of Sanatan Hindu culture.
